Dozens of Cities Affected by the August 5th Hailstorm in Minneapolis

An estimated 43,000 homes across the tri-state area were affected in some way by the menacing hail storm on August 5th. Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa received 1-2" hailstones with a maximum 4" hailstone size reported. The top notable cities listed as reporting hail reaching the ground are:

The National Weather Service was tracking this storm and knew heavy winds were coming, and hail was imminent around mid-day. Then this storm quickly became severe with colossal hail coming down rapidly at lunchtime. The center issued warnings for Wright, Hennepin and Carver counties at 12:19 pm on August 5, 2019 with announcements to expect half dollar-size hail, then just 20 minutes later, the center said to expect tennis ball-size hail! Four-inch hail chunks did indeed hit Watertown and Delano. Many social posts show photos of hailstones next to baseballs as a comparison!
